Our fourth day on the road greeted us without the locusts that had graciously presented themselves the preceeding night. We got a (relatively) early start but before long we experienced our first (and only) bit of car trouble. Actually, it was more of an electrical problem with the trailer wiring than actual car trouble, but no road trip can be complete without at least one pit stop in a town so small that its name has been all but completely forgotten.

Now, the previous day culminated with a plague of locusts which I didn't think could be topped. However, this day ended with an even more revolting (yet seemingly harmless) menace...swarms of thousands upon thousands of flying insects that seemed to die overnight. Despite their seemingly brief lifespan, these creatures in LeClaire, IA (just alongside the might Mississippi) were everywhere...including the inside of our motel room. The room--by the way--ended up being the last available in the area and we were forced to retire in a smoking room (Rachel and I are both avid non-smokers).
