On Wednesday, September 21, 2005 I participated with the Chili Fire Department and other Monroe County, NY fire and EMS agencies in a county-wide mass casualty incident / HAZMAT response drill. The scenario consisted of a simulated terrorist attack wherein a vehicle was driven into a railroad tanker car with a secondary ignition device found. Our ambulance was supposed to be first on scene, but as it turned out one of the Rural/Metro medics decided to charge the scene (contaminating himself and his partner). Overall it really was more of a police and fire incident with very little for us EMS folk to do. Once again, EMS was treated as a second-class citizen while fire played with their toys. If this had been a real emergency you would be royally screwed.
