Congratulations! You have somehow managed to become one of the elite few that
is a visitor to my homepage. Whether you stumbled upon the site randomly,
or I pestered into visiting, I hope that you will find your stay enjoyable.
So who the heck is Scott Topiol and why do you care? Well, I will attempt
to answer the first question. It will then be up to you to formulate your
own answer to the second (feel free to keep such answers to yourself).
Originally from Los Angeles, CA, I moved to Rochester, NY (specifically North Chili,
NY) in July 2003. Upon learning this someone invariably asks, "Why would you
move from L.A. to Rochester!?" Luckily I can answer this question in one word:
Nicole. At this point in time, whoever asked the original question will stare
at me as if I had just answered them in some dialect of whatever-language-it-is
they speak in Cajun country, chuckle and say, "You moved here for a woman?"
Just prior to leaving California in 2003 I received my certification as an Emergency
Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B). Contrary to popular belief that does not
mean that I am an "ambulance driver" (despite the fact that I do indeed drive an
ambulance). I promptly received my New York State EMT certification via a
wonderful thing called reciprocity, and have been working as an EMT for
Rural/Metro Medical Services Rochester (the 911 EMS provider
for the City of Rochester) and serving as a volunteer for the
Chili Fire Department. In the very near future I will
begin paramedic school.
In addition to being an ambulance medic, I am also a computer programmer.
Despite my alleged prowess in the realm of coding, my heart is in EMS and medicine.
Prior to my becoming an EMT, I spent two years as a cadet in U.S. Army ROTC at UCLA
(you can find a few photos from that stint scattered throughout the site).
