We're back in Chili after a welcome dose of Los Angeles civilization. For those of you who are interested, check out the all-new
Los Angeles 2003 photo gallery!
Finding a job Rochester has proven to be quite a challenging task. Growing up in a big city one tends to take the abundance of jobs (in most any field) for granted. Nicole and I have been looking for work in the Rochester area for over two months now and haven't been having much luck. Nicole just landed a job at a local coffee shop but the pay leaves much to be desired. I--on the other hand--have yet to have such luck and despite the numerous applications that I have filled out, I've yet to receive so much as an interview. The IT industry up here is nothing like it is in Los Angeles and the number of software development jobs are few and far between and extremely competitive.
EMT work--which is always available in Los Angeles--is also nearly impossible to come by in Rochester. There are only two private ambulance companies operating in the area and neither one of them have been willing to hire me. Rural/Metro is not currently hiring EMT's, and Monroe Ambulance refuses to hire me without at least three months experience. Unlike Los Angeles where there are literally dozens of paid ambulance providers, everything up here is volunteer. I have been waiting about a month to begin volunteering with the Chili, NY Fire Department so that I can obtain the required three months of experience in order to finally be eligible for a small EMT salary. Even more frustrating is that yesterday I finally came across a fire department out here that actually pays EMTs (and decently to boot)...but--alas--I have to be 21 before they will hire me; I guess another eight months won't kill me...or will it?
So here I am. It's one o'clock in the morning and once again I'm unable to sleep. Jobless, I guess it really doesn't matter when I sleep since I don't have much to wake up for anyway. I don't care what Mr. Bush says...the economy is in the shitter and it isn't getting any better. There may be jobs in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago...but here in America it's as desperate as can be.
Alright, I've finished my chamomile tea...hopefully now I'll be able to sleep. Of course, if any of you out there feel like helping Nicole and I out with our "Get out of Chili Fund," feel free to click the PayPal icon on the left side of the screen. All who donate will be honorably mentioned in my book (to be written once we--that's right--get out of Chili.) Good night.
